This year, we look beyond Nigeria and explore traditional African craftsmanship across the African continent and in doing so, we unmask the unsung heroes, working behind-the-scenes, weaving into the African narrative our indigenous textiles. Today we introduce to you, the Maasai beaders from Ngong Hills, Kenya and the Akwete weavers from Abia State, Nigeria.

Ekwutolom Chigozie, Akwete weaver from Abia State, Eastern Nigeri. The traditional craft of Akwete weaving has been passed down to women from generation to generation in the Akwete community of Abia State. The proceeds are used as a source of income. The material, equally beautiful as it is diverse can be used to make clothes, shoes, bags and more.
